The Winebox Auction was first held in 2006 as a charity fund-raiser for RealPeople @ Mosaic. Now in its 4th year, the Winebox Auction has established itself as a positive, unique event that brings the wider art community together.

As in past years, artists were asked to start with a ‘blank canvas’ in the form of a standard pine 2 bottle wine box. The imagination and the quality of work produced has developed over the years – this years results will take your breath away! Thirty five artists have contributed their time and artistic skills for the 2009 event, supporting and acknowledging of the importance of RealPeople @ Mosaic. They include; Dick Frizzell, Fane Flaws, Ben Pearce, Eddie Budd, Chris Bryant, Paratene Matchitt, Riks Terstappen and Alan Toa.

Many artists have contributed to the event several times and Wineboxes from previous years have become works of highly prized collectable art.

While its heart will always belong at Mosaic, the Winebox has grown and the Exhibition and Auction are this year exhibited to the public, with the support of the Hastings City Art Gallery to satisfy the level of interest from art collectors and wider public.

With the generous support of our sponsor, Riverside Wines, each Winebox artwork is auctioned includes 6 bottles of wine. The bottles are uniquely hand-labelled with an image of the artwork they accompany, further adding to the value of the artwork and further making it an ideal ‘conversation’ piece.

The Winebox Exhibition is on now at the Hastings City Art Gallery. Open 7 days, 10am – 4.30pm, admission is FREE.

The works will then be auctioned at the Winebox Auction on the 26th August, with all proceeds directly benefiting RealPeople @ Mosaic.
