The Basset Hound is a type of dog, similar to the Beagle, except they have short legs, longer ears and are longer in the body. Basset Hounds have an average lifespan of about 12 years. Colours for Basset Hounds are brown and white, lemon and white and tricolour. The Basset Hound also makes a good house dog because they are not too big and they don't take up a lot of space. They do make a good watchdog because their deep bark makes strangers think of them as aggressive.

Basset HoundThe Basset Hound is slow and very single minded. They have been known to wander away from home if they are not kept in a fenced yard because they are a scent hound. They have been known to overeat and are susceptible to bloat which can be very life threatening. Another bad habit the Basset Hound has is they snore very loudly at night and they are prone to nightmares. One thing you learn is that when Basset Hounds eat or drink their ears end up in their bowls because they are so long. They also have a tendency to steal food when you are not looking. The Basset hound has been known to slobber because they have quite a wet mouth.
