Tena Koe!

We are Hawke's Bay's Home for Disabled Artists and Outsider Art

mosaic's building

Situated in Taradale, Hawke's Bay New Zealand, we are a Disability Service, Creative Space, Art Gallery, and Lifeskills Education Centre.

Our Winebox Auction is now an established event on the Hawke's Bay Art Calendar and our Education Programme features Courses in Art, Life Skills, Bone Carving, Sculpture, Toi Maori, Painting and Computers, to name a few! The art produced at Mosaic is fresh, inventive, uncontrived and just amazing! Whether you call it "Raw Art", "Outsider Art", "Naive Art " or "Art Brut" it is the kind of art other artists wish they could make.

Our aim is to support disabled people to become more confident and independant... we believe that disability shouldn't matter! You can buy genuine outsider art from our art gallery or on-line gallery and support Real People. You can visit our artists studio and meet the real people behind the unreal art!

No wonder we are called "Mosaic" - our amazing Mosaic wall and mermaid is more than a great public artwork and tourist attraction - its a metaphor for everything amazing that we do!

Weimaraners

Rolls Royce had a model called the grey ghost and while I'm not suggesting the Weimaraner is the Rolls Royce of dogs, this breed's colour is something special, it's called silver grey, mouse grey or champagne. It's like a pink champagne and is the first thing that strikes you, followed by it's piercing yellow eyes and those floppy Baileys Irish Cream ears. This breed has real style. Perhaps this is why it was the toast at the court of the Duke of Weimar.

Another Great Exhibition!

Image

Nicholas Rodger's latest exhibition is now on.

Titled "The Art of Tourism" this fantastic exhibition of paintings (and boat!) features Nicholas's highly imaginative narrative and detailed scenery. He likes to include a short but usually pithy description as part of the artwork, setting the scene for the viewer. His work also breaks down the barrier between history and imagination and typically has a uniquely structred pictoral space. In Nicholas's own words inscribed on one of these paintings:

"He was just a New Zealander on holiday in Port Vila, Vanuatu. She was just a teenage girl that lived at the motel he was staying at. But in this South Pacific Paradise a unique friendship will begin. Nicholas Rodgers presents Love in the Tropics

This exhibition is on until November 21 - dont miss it...
